Could it Be? Flattery?

Hey blog-o-friends! It's Novemeber, that disturbingly close to the end of the year month. Time to rake up resolutions and finish projects. As it were I've taken to writing. I discovered nanowrimo. Did you know November is national novel writing month? Apparently it is! I had no idea! (also didn't know a novel was anything over 50,000 words) If you so choose, join as well. You only need to write 1667 words per day to reach a novel by the end of a month. So far it's rather enjoyable, i'm sure that will change once I get farther in. Regardless.

To begin we have Frank Miller's 'Nancy'. Followed by my copy in pencil.

I've got to say it was alot more cerebral than I thought it would be. It's not heavily ornamented so there's nothing to distract from a poorly drawn line or unclean edge. Everything must be carefully edged and finished, it really makes you appreciate a pencil sharper.

Etsy Revival!

Hey Friends!

Took a tiny break from blogging to focus on my Etsy for a bit, I've recently quit my job and took the opportunity to organize my flat and get around to the growing pile of  'projects-to-get-to'. One of which is a series of cashmere sweaters. Seriously, I exaggerate not. These pictures and posting is three years in the making, I hope your as excited as I.

Here's a link (sadly, not the legend of zelda kind)

Kindly take a gander and leave pearls of sagely wisdom!

Out And About

Today I woke up feeling adventurous (and oddly, simultaneously lethargic) and was greeted with a brisk cool Monday that seemed, adventure-conductive. So out and about I went, with aimlessness, I headed to Hong Kong island via the average 11:20am ferry to pay a couple bills followed by seating myself on a bench to simply feel the breeze and watch the people.

It seemed a quiet sort of day, and by the time 4 o clock rolled by I was happily entrenched with old, used books. I've discovered old books are equally good if not sometimes better. Opening a book to a handwritten dedication, scribbled groceries lists, or love doodles makes it feel like you got a little extra something in addition to deep discounts. A history of sorts to go with that particular book. Children's books are particularly good for hidden secrets maybe because they had no fear of writing on the pages, and a need to be heard. Either way I picked up some books then went window shopping!

First stop was Vintage HK today the clocks really got my attention. There was this orange one, which was wind up with a little date on the side. Every time you flip it over it counts upwards! (how awesome is that?) it' makes lots of satisfying click noises but was sadly 700 HKD which is about 90 USD :( booooo. Instead got a dress with elephants holding stars :3

Next stop was Homeless, they have three branches all on Gough street. The main store focuses on decor and designer housewares, the second furniture and bigger items , and the third is a specialty store for handmade  mostly metal, rubber, glass, and pottery (this store is called blacksmith :3 so it follows..)

Finally my fav shot of the day! These pictures look antique but closeup it's clear they're fairly new (still perfectly glossy) But they look faded to various degrees purely from the effects of the sun. I think it's interesting how you can see their sequence by their pigments.

Oh! I got myself an instagram and thinking about pininterest! Message me you sn if you have either!

Foggy horsie.

I've been neglectful of this blog, but recently found myself  taking an alarming amount of pictures thinking , "I can post this later"  Of course, I rarely do because there are seemingly countless ways to get distracted from the process of taking a picture to writing and posting about it. Nevertheless, here is another attempt to bring it back. As you may or may not know (probably not since I failed to blog about it) I moved to Hong Kong little over a year ago, and naturally brought my camera with me :3 It has been harder to get pictures here than I thought it would be but more on that later (lest we get sidetracked).

There are many things I miss about America despite the many pros living in a larger city brings. One of which is the wide open spaces, and animals.  On a particularly foggy morning ferry (see left) on the sea, I found myself reminiscing of the two animals that seemed to lurk about my house in hazy viewing conditions, one the previously blogged about fox, and second the random horses in the fields. Horses are rather.. thin on the ground here in HK, but thank goodness I have pictures to reminisce by :3

Computer deprivation.

Hullo again! It's been ages since i've been in a blogging mood.

Well from July-November I didn't have a computer at all, unless you count the sketchy laptop I was forced to share with my mother (which I don't) Finally I sucked it up and sat outside best buy for 10 hours on black friday and got myself a good desktop and baby netbook :D

Then December/January got all busy at work since it is retail.

Which leads me to February. Half of which I spent drooling over ebay/etsy, eating at a newly discovered cracker barrel, complaining about the cold/snow, and taking pictures in the cold. That was before I came to my senses and started writing letters to everyone whose addresses I actually have, and now it's the 23.

Which means... theoretically, that i'm getting my act together, actually posting on etsy/blogging, and consigning/cleaning like a madwoman or maybe a squirrel on crack hiding her best acorns.

Anyhow computer re-privation has led to alot of sleep deprivation :( But anyhow I'm cutting my hair this Friday! Expect jumping hair pictures/obligatory new haircut pictures :D!

Haircuts make me feel pretty.

So, it's been three years since my last haircut and my hair's soft evenly cut layers (not to mention mid-neck length) have turned into choppy, random chunks that fall at my waist. I'm working on selling my hair and hopefully make some always welcomed money but the big choice is how I want to cut it. After digging though the ridiculous realms my hard drive i've found these pictures. Of course, i've yet to thoroughly flip through the hip world of lookbook but nonetheless you should comment/vote on which one is your favorite.

Skittery fox, it's ok, please come back.

About a month ago, a flurry of curious events occurred. For some reason I was up before 9 on a Monday without the significant help of my alarm phone. I had eaten a full breakfast, and instead of being lazy and poking about on the interweb, I actually was productively sketching new-might-happen-eventually designs, and thinking how much easier life would be if i had that unexplainable compulsion to obey societies limits on time. Suddenly my mother starts freaking out. Well freaking out might be a strong description, but after all with my views on mornings in general, any sort of excitement is pretty much freaking out.

A truely small animal is never visible from our house, who can see a squirrel in the midst of 3 feet re-seeding grass? I look closer and find myself staring at a fox, or maybe a coyote. It's cute, and for a bit i forget it's dangerous, it trots lightly and despite my hate for disney, i'm reminded of commercials for 'a fox's tale' and begin to revel it's bouncy footstep and bushy orange tale. Two minutes later it slinks under the grass and doesn't emerge.

I'm sit there thinking about the fox instead of sketching. Certainly there was wildlife in my old backyard. In Nebraska we had a whole family of ground squirels which dug so many burrows the ground sunk in extra-hollow areas when it rained heavily and every spring gave birth to about 9 babies which often didn't make it to august. And we had two different burrows of rabbits, who liked to fight over the little patches of natural bluegrass in the evenings. We had that crazy falcon who ate a blue jay once, but nothing as big or predatory as fox.

After that we didn't see it, and although I often did not wake up in time, mother, who is fond of morning gardening, said she only saw it once and our neighbors three dogs had scarred it with loud barking one day and she hadn't seen it since.

So the fox was forgotten until last week, when my neighbors were walking their dog and stoped to regale the early parts of their dog walk with my mother. Apparently said fox, was a girl fox, and girl fox had given birth to a little of baby foxes, which lived conveniantly in a small recess/ravine between the golf course up the hill and the grass field. Her dogs had barked at them, and the 5 of them went skittering back into the field for safety.

While the dogs had won this round, I couldn't help but wonder if there would be another round, one without four small fox pups, and an angry, revengful mother fox. The next day, neighbor put extra tall wire trelaces tied to her already tall fence, and started walking her dogs on the other side of the street.

And so the fox mystery is solved, though i wish, it was a little less dangerous, and less skittery, and would poke it's head out of the field every now and again so i could photograph her and her babies, which by now probably have adorably fluffy tails.
